Believe me, they were just guessing. They are horrible at vocabulary. Still, they do make for some amusing reads at times. Here's the sad part...The sentences were EXACTLY the same as the ones on their quizzes. All they had to do was memorize the right word. They didn't actually have to know what they meant!

I bought the book because of a good review in Books and Culture. Generally, I can tell from those reviews if you'll like it or not. I was right this time! I wish I had more time to read B&C, because every time I do, there's at least one book that jumps out that is usually worth the effort.

Must you choose between the two? Is not our position in Christ the transcendence for which we long (Ephesians 1:3-14)? And is not the earthy spirituality of David and the other psalmists the God-filled immanence which defines a live of raw passion and life-as-a-cup overflowing with a good wife, a few good friends, good food, and (albeit at times limited) opportunities to do genuine good--occasionally not even the right hand knowing with the left is doing? (Notice that the only likable character in LITC is the priest who listens to Radio Theater).

They are indeed out there. Hopefully I can become one of them!

I also write a blog dedicated to faith and the arts at http://www.bodycreativenetwork.com.

I will have to pick up Faith, Film and Philosophy. Looks like a great book.

You also may want to check out Nigel Goodwin, Madeline Le'Engle, Makoto Fujimura and Dick Staub. Some of the many great minds when it comes to faith and art.

I know you are busy, but maybe you would be interested in giving some encouragement to another Christian poet?

If so, go over to this post by Joel Dueck and let him know what you think of his poem. He is not quite in the same league as you, but he is pretty good. If you are curious as to what I thought of it you can go here. But don't do that until you respond to him. I would not want to poison your own views.
